The Quiristers of Winchester College
Director: Dónal McCann
Accompanist: Benjamin Cunningham
The Quiristers of Winchester College present a programme of sacred and secular music at St John the Baptist.
St John the Baptist church enjoys historic links with Winchester College and its Quiristers. Back in the late 14th century, when Winchester College was founded, St John's was the church that was used by the scholars to worship and sing in before the college had its own chapel. This concert celebrates this common history.
The Quiristers are 16 boy choristers, aged 9–13, who sing the chapel services at Winchester College. In this concert performance, they will present Gabriel Fauré’s beautiful Messe Basse and his evergreen motet, Cantique de Jean Racine in its arrangement for upper voices. They will also perform two witty and entertaining song cycles by prominent English composers of the 20th century, Richard Rodney Bennett and Benjamin Britten.
Join them in the historic surroundings of St John the Baptist church for an unforgettable evening of song!
Presented in association with the Friends of St John’s.
