Cafe Bar Jazz Night: Charlie Pyne Quartet

Our monthly jazz evenings, presented in conjunction with Winchester Jazz Festival.

Double bassist, vocalist, and composer Charlie Pyne performs contemporary melodic jazz infused with pop and world music with her quartet.

Charlie Pyne Quartet’s sound is one of effervescent optimism. They combine elusive riffs, kaleidoscopic harmony and inevitable-sounding melodies which remain in the ear long after the music ends. The debut album, ‘Dancing Shadows’, is a joyful and thoughtful exploration of Charlie’s personal and musical influences. The songs range from a tango-inspired love song to a rocky ghost story about trains, and the title track ‘Dancing Shadows’ is a bass and sax duet which builds into a raucous celebration. This is Charlie’s first project playing her original compositions, having spent the last 10 years playing double bass with great musicians such as Yazz Ahmed, Noel Langley, Martin France, Brigitte Beraha and Nikki Iles
