Alex Lewis: Mountain
Film screening
This epic and award winning film follows Hampshire resident and quadruple amputee Alex Lewis as he sets out to prove to himself, his son and the rest of the world that anything is possible by climbing Ethiopia's highest mountain using an off-road, solar-powered, mobility hand cycle.
We are taken from the A&E department to the design and technology laboratories at the University of Southampton and then to the spectacular scenery of the Ethiopian Highlands.
This is an inspiring story of overcoming seemingly impossible hurdles to achieve your aims.
The film won Best Documentary at the London Independent Film Awards 2023 and was selected to be shown at the 2023 Beverly Hills Film Festival.
The story and message of the film should be appealing to and enjoyed by people of all ages, but parents of younger children (eg under 12) should be aware that there are a couple of incidences of expletives being used and some brief graphic images of Alex post operation.
All proceeds go to Play to the Crowd, the arts and education charity that runs Theatre Royal Winchester, Hat Fair and Playmakers, to support live performance and creative learning and engagement opportunities in Winchester and surrounding areas.
Thanks to the film and expedition funders David and Nadine Collinson and to the production company HLA for screening the film for the benefit of Play to the Crowd.
